Pupil Power Graduation!
Thu 10 Apr 2008
Nottingham Forest Study Centre hosted the Spring Playing for Success Celebration evening to mark the end of pupils achievements over 10 weeks.
Parents, teachers and sponsors recognised their progress and enjoyed presentations demonstrating the pupils varying skills.
This celebration was the first time the pupils actually planned and delivered the event ,which was a huge success. Seventy 10-14 year olds came from Fernwood Comprehensive School, Highbank Primary, Northgate Primary and Sycamore Juniors. A pupil representative from each school sat on the top table along with volunteer mentor, Jake Turner a student at Nottingham Trent University and Academy player Tim Hopkinson .Each spoke confidently about their time at the centre and the positives to come out of their experience.
We then watched a Healthy Eating powerpoint presentation, which was the work of Sam Warren, a year 8 pupil from Fernwood Comprehensive school. This was followed by a dance performed by Jatinder Grewal and Daniel Singh also from Fernwood. Northgate pupils demonstrated Speed Stacking and pupils from Sycamore read some of their articles they had written which were included in one of the match day programmes. Highbank pupils demonstrated a press interview, taking questions from the floor! They coped fantastically with the pressure!
Tim Hopkinson who is one of several regular Academy mentors, presented the pupils with their certificates. He emphasised to the audience how much he enjoys his time at the study centre and how rewarding it is to see the pupils progress. We wish to thank Tim and his colleagues for being such positive role models.
Luke Chambers and Lewis McGugan handed out tickets for the Cheltenham home game and signed items from the pupil's goody bags.
A special mention goes to McDonalds who very kindly continue to provide fruit bags for the sessions and also gave out Healthy drinks at the end of the evening.
