Nottingham Forest are promoted to the Championship after beating Yeovil while Doncaster were beaten by Cheltenham.

The first half could not have gone much better for Forest who took an early two-goal lead before Yeovil got one back. But
Forest soon got their two-goal advantage back and when Cheltenham scored against Doncaster it was a perfect first half.

Forest seemed more nervous in the second half, allowing Yeovil to get back into the game and get a goal back. But Forest composed themselves and held on to take the three most important points of the season.

Lewis McGugan came close to a spectacular goal in the fourth minute when
KrisCommons worked well to win the ball and set McGugan up and he sent the ball flying towards goal from 25 yards out and was only just wide.

But it was
Forest's player of the year that put them in the lead in the 12th minute after a 50-50 tackle left Marvin Williams on the ground. But the referee let play continue, Bennett took control of the ball and sent it flying into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

And they were two up five minutes late when Commons picked up Brett Ormerod's through ball and sent it through the goalkeeper's legs and into the bottom right corner of the net.

There were memories of last season when Yeovil got a quick one back after Jaime Peters made a great run through the
Forest defence. He was first challenged by McGugan and the ball fell for Marcus Stewart who gave it back to Peters and he had an easy shot to put the ball in from two yards out.

There was an almighty roar around the City Ground when the news came in that
Cheltenham had scored against Doncaster.

Forest won a free kick when Chris Cohen was fouled two yards outside the penalty area to the right. McGugan and Commons both stood over the ball but it was McGugan whose powerful strike sent the ball flying, giving Steve Mildenhall no chance whatsoever to stop it flying into the top right corner.

Forest came close to a fourth from a corner on the far side. McGugan's ball found Wes Morgan's head but it was just cleared off the line by the Yeovil keeper.

And Commons put a great cross in five minutes from time and Nathan Tyson went running in for the ball but he just missed it by a whisker.

There were calls for a penalty from the crowd when Morgan went down between two Yeovil players but the referee was close to the action and saw no push.

Forest had a lucky escape when Stewart played the ball in to Williams who had a clear shot on goal from 12 yards out but sent it flying across goal and outside the opposite post.

Forest continued to dominate in the early stages of the second half but after the first ten minutes Yeovil started to put pressure on Forest.

A great tackle by James Perch blocked one chance and he injured himself in the process. He was able to carry on for a few minutes but was replaced by Junior Agogo with 25 minutes to go.

And he looked certain to have set Tyson up with his first move of the game. Tyson got round Mildenhall and just managed to get a touch on it but the ball was moving slowly towards goal and it was cleared off the line by Terry Skiverton.

The City Ground went quiet when
Doncaster equalized and then Yeovil got one back from a corner which substitute Andy Kirk headed in.

But there was a change of atmosphere when news quickly went round that
Cheltenham had got one back. The whole City Ground came to life with most of the crowd standing and singing as loud as they could.

The
Forest players responded well and Tyson seemed determined to put the game out of Yeovil's reach.

Brett Ormerod went off to a standing ovation and Arron Davies came on to play against his former club with four minutes remaining.

The football became almost irrelevant when news went round that Doncaster had lost and with three minutes of stoppage time to play Forest fought to keep possession with Smith taking as long as he dare to kick the ball up the pitch.

When
Forest won a corner in the final minute there was hardly a person sitting down in the City Ground when the whistle finally went.

Inevitably there was a pitch invasion which the police and stewards were unable to prevent as the celebrations started.
