Nottingham Forest had to be happy with a point after being held to a 0-0 draw by Doncaster.

Forest had the majority of the possession in the first half but Doncaster defended in numbers, denying them space and successfully frustrated Forest's efforts.

Forest put more pressure on Doncaster in the second half but it was the away side that came closest to scoring when they hit the bar.

It was a bright start by both sides and Forest looked positive with some good movement going forward, but Doncaster were tight at the back, preventing any early chances for Forest.

Their first opportunity came from a free kick when Sammy Clingan was brought down after making a surging run. But from ten yards outside the penalty area KrisCommons' shot went straight into the wall.

Forest had a chance from a lovely ball down the left which Nathan Tyson ran onto and put in an early cross towards Junior Agogo, but Gordon Greer just managed to reach out his leg to put the ball out for a corner.

The Doncaster supporters thought they had taken the lead in the 21st minute when James Hayter chipped the ball into the back of the net but the linesman's flag was up for offside.

Mark Wilson went unpunished for the second time for a late challenge on Tyson, right in front of manager Colin Calderwood.

A misunderstanding between Ian Breckin and Paul Smith could have gifted Doncaster a goal when neither player went for the ball in front of an otherwise empty goalmouth, but Breckin just managed to put the ball out before a Doncaster player could get on the end of it.

Agogo made a superb run down the left and with Tyson bursting through the middle into the goalmouth, a goal looked on the cards. But Agogo hesitated, Tyson had to keep himself onside and in the end had to stretch to try and get onto the late cross, sliding off the pitch and staying down for a worrying few moments.

Forest had a chance in the last minute of the half when Commons played a short corner to Chris Cohen whose shot from just outside the box went through Tyson's legs. He was unable to get a touch on the ball and Neil Sullivan made his first real save of the game.

Forest had a chance early in the second half when Julian Bennett's cross went right across the face of goal but there were no forest players close enough to get on the end of the ball.

And they continued to put the pressure on with a good run by Luke Chambers and a cross in to Agogo who side-footed to Commons, but his effort went straight into the arms of Sullivan.

Another good effort came from a Clingan cross, Chambers header was knocked away and back to Agogo who was in place to nod the ball in from a yard out but the ball was put out for a corner.

The two combined well again when Commons ran to the edge of the box and fed the ball to Agogo but he was blocked by Matthew Mills.

Doncaster were awarded a free kick just outside the box to the left of the D for a foul by Lennon on Wellens. James Coppinger's effort came off the wall and back out to him and was then deflected out for a Forest goal kick.

As Forest continued to push forward Kelvin Wilson got away from Hayter and did a one-two with Agogo before shooting just wide and over the bar.

Doncaster began to fight back and Paul Smith had to save a shot from Wellens and get on the end of a cross to stop their efforts.

With Forest still unable to find the target Tyson made way for Grant Holt with 12 minutes of the game remaining.

But it was Doncaster who came close to getting on the scoresheet when Mark Wilson's shot hit the crossbar and came out to Hayter whose effort was blocked by Kelvin Wilson.

Forest were straight on the attack and Commons crossed to Holt whose effort was well saved by Sullivan and put out for a corner. And from the corner Chambers missed from a yard out.

There was a delay to the start of three minutes stoppage time when Agogo went down clutching his leg but he was able to come back on.

And he came close to getting a late winner when he got up on the far post and headed just wide from Cohen's corner.
