In spite of dominating much of the game and creating more chances Nottingham Forest have once again been unable to beat Walsall, having to settle for their third draw in a row.
Forest dominated the first half from the outset and were denied on a number of occasions by some excellent saves from the Walsall keeper.
Forest took the lead early in the second half but Walsall equalized soon after when the ball went in off Kelvin Wilson. Wasall defended in numbers after that and in spite of having four strikers on the pitch Forest were unable to find a winner.
Forest, playing towards the Trent End, started well and put Walsall under pressure from the start with Matt Thornhill twice denied a goal within the first five minutes.
The Walsall keeper came a long way out to make his first save. On the second occasion Thornhill turned to pick up Lewis McGugan's cross, producing a great shot from six yards out and Clayton Ince had to dive to his right to palm the ball round for a corner.
There was more pressure for Walsall when Thornhill sent the ball out to Chris Cohen on the left. His cross found Brett Ormerod, whose header on the near post gave Forest their fourth corner of the game.
Ince had an easier save in the 25th minute when Thornhill passed to Nathan Tyson who turned and fired in a shot and the keeper rose and grabbed the ball with both hands as it headed for the top corner.
Forest looked dangerous on the break in the 36th minute, with Thornhill and Tyson again combining well to create a chance, with Tyson's effort going across the face of goal and Ormerod coming close to getting on the end of it.
Forest came close to a goal two minutes before half time when Cohen sent the ball forward to Tyson. He ran on and, with his pace, beat a Walsall player in spite of a 5-yard lead but his shot came flying off the crossbar.
Walsall gave Forest a fright in stoppage time when the home side were caught out after the referee changed a decision, allowing Edrissa Sonko to get a shot in, which Paul Smith did well to block. The ball was then drilled across the face of goal by Tommy Mooney before it was sent clear.
Forest took the lead four minutes into the half when McGugan won the ball and Tyson cross to Ormerod who slotted the ball in at the far post.
James Perch, who had appeared ill at the start of the second half, going down well away from the action, was quickly substituted after the goal, replaced by Luke Chambers.
It should have been two a minute later when Tyson got past Ian Roper and made another great cross from the edge of the penalty area to Ormerod on the near post but he was unable to get the ball on target.
An on-fire Tyson tried again when he made a great run, beating Roper once again to shoot from 18 yards, but Ince made a comfortable save.
Walsall equalized out of nothing when Sonko crossed to Mooney who headed the ball towards goal but it hit Kelvin Wilson and went over the line.
A great cross by Chambers gave Tyson another chance but this time he was offside.
When Walsall won a corner Mark Bradley's header from the near post was cleared off the line by Clingan.
Play was far less fluent as the half progressed and Walsall played a much more defensive game which Forest struggled to break down. In an attempt to do just that Junior Agogo came on to replace Chris Cohen with 15 minutes to go.
But it was Walsall who had the next chance when Bradley headed onto the crossbar from Rhys Weston's cross.
When Grant Holt replaced Thornhill straight after this Forest were left with four strikers on the pitch.
But even with four minutes stoppage time Forest were unable to break down the Walsall defence.
