Colin Calderwood was delighted with the performance of his side in the 1-1 draw with Everton at The City Ground.

The Nottingham Forest boss saw his side go close to beating the Premiership outfit but the display was far more important to him than the result.

He said: "I think a lot of people will have gone home from the match very pleased with what they saw.

"We are half way through our pre-season preparations and I think we can see that we have the makings of a good unit.

"Looking at the way the new players settled in, there was a nice feeling about the way things developed and we have got to build on that in the remainder of our pre-season games and get us ready for August 10."

He also paid tribute to the contribution of Everton to 'an enjoyable game'.

Calderwood added: "Both Everton and ourselves have a reputation for producing young players and you saw evidence of that tonight.

"They were not at their strongest but they still had a number of top international players out there and when they are added to the talented youngsters they have, it represented a considerable test for us.

"For our part we looked as though we have a good foundation in terms of fitness and we've got another good week ahead to get ourselves ready for Reading."
